Drawing in the City

Cities lie at the heart of  society. Every brick, every corner, every road and person living in them has a story to tell. Join us, not only to discover and admire, but also, of course, to draw, paint, sketch and soak up what a truly modern city has to offer! Combine urban scenery, great food and history, with expert tuition from artists who inspire!

Our  city art breaks are suitable for all abilities from absolute beginners onwards. The course will be fully tutored by renowned artist, and art teacher, Rosie McClelland (ASU, Pastel Society of Ireland,  International Artist Magazine).

Each day, you will be introduced to  a new situation to sketch, including a brief  history of the location and its place in the city’s cultural story.

During these sessions Rosie will guide you through the process of gathering information learning various techniques and producing linear, tonal and colour sketches. Each member of the group will receive individual tuition and will be encouraged to find their own style and interests

As well as the practical sketching sessions,  excursions to prominent  museums and galleries will be organised for your pleasure and enjoyment.

In the evenings you will have the option to join us at different places to eat and unwind. You may, of course, wish to go your own way in the evening, and why shouldn’t you? Whatever your desire, we’ll be happy to advise you on the best places to eat, drink, and sample the atmosphere, in a city that’s falling down with options to suit any budget and taste.

The course is very much based around sketching and drawing, however since Jessica Weber (co-founder of “Drawing in the City”) has been a professional photographer for many years, expert advice will also be available on how best to photograph your subject, so you’ll be able to continue your artwork when you return home.
(Non- drawing partners are also welcome – please contact Drawing in the City for advice on rates)

At “Drawing in the City”  we want you to draw in the city  in every sense of the phrase. Our aim is to give you expert advice, introduce you to  fantastic places and show you a great time, whilst giving you the opportunity to be creative and free in a city which truly inspires.

“A city is more than a place in space, it is a drama in time” — Patrick Geddes
